What’s Out There?

My own book! I loved creating this. Conceived, written and illustrated by me, this is a non-fiction kids book all about Australia, and was published by Hardie Grant in 2020. It was an enormous job but a rare opportunity to research and learn so much about our country, finding fun ways to get us all excited about how incredible Australia is!

Australia. It’s old, it’s unique and has a big story to tell.

You can buy ‘What’s Out There?’ at Matilda Bookshop (& other good book stores), you can contact me directly as well, or find out more at Hardie Grant Publishing.

A review

“This is Australia. It’s old. Really old.”

Thus begins What’s Out There?, a beautiful book aimed at 6-10 year olds curious about Australia’s history, people, plants, animals and environment.

Stewart, who has worked at Museum Victoria, covers a great deal within this book, from the dinosaurs and megafauna in this part of the world, through to the arrival of humans and the significance of Australia’s indigenous people and culture - a major theme throughout the book. And there are pages dedicated to our native fauna and flora, complete with illustrations such as where they are found and how big they grow.

While rich in details, the layout and gorgeous illustrations make it very accessible. A great addition to kids’ bookshelves.
